Hike to the Old Salmon Falls Bridge

If you are looking for a fun family activity to do, you will love the easy hike to the old Salmon Falls Bridge (the hidden bridge). It is only visible when the American River is below 400 ft levels. The bridge was build in 1920 during the gold rush. You can still see some of the ruins of the small town along the side of the river.

My family and I visited the historic site over Valentines Day weekend. Our kids 5 and 8 enjoyed it a lot. It was easy enough for both of them and we even took the long way to the site. The distance of your hike will depend on where you decide to park along the road on Salmon Falls rd. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a good thing that we packed snacks and beverages, because the kids enjoyed the views from the top of the hill, where they enjoyed building towers of rocks.

Visiting the historic site could be an hour activity or an all day event. There are many trails you can explore by foot or a bike.

If you have a furry friend, don't leave them behind!
